It was as a labourer that one young Chinese migrant first started out here, carrying sacks of produce at the old harbour and later labouring for a spice trading company. With much thrift and toil, the late Kho Beng Kang became the region's largest trader of nutmeg, earning him the title "The Nutmeg King".

The sons of the late Senior Kho carry on the legacy as owners of The Inn at Temple Street. Today, the hotel, restored to its former glory, reflects the sentiments of the old spice merchant, depicting the typical trades of the early Chinese migrants who first settled here.

The interior of the hotel has a historical feel to it with carved wood decorations and faux antique furniture. The rooms has Peranakan decor with dark blue flora print bed cover and curtain. The TV are mounted to the wall in front of the bed as to create space in the small room. All rooms are equip with coffee/tea making facility individual air-condition and electronic key card system. The bathrooms are in white and dark green tiles in antique style although all amenities like shower stalls and taps are thoroughly modern.
