Temples
Temples are the places of worship for a variety of religions m Singapore Hindu, Buddhist, Shentoist and Taoist. Many have survived intact for well over 100 years, and most celebrate colourful festivals at different times of the year.
Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple
| Built in the mid-19th century, the Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple was re-built and consecrated in 2003. Some interesting features include the Rajagopuram entrance tower which features the Chola style of architecture. The Cholas were the greatest temple builders in the history of India. |
In the main hall is the temple's most unique feature: four granite pillars with eight sculptures each - making up the 32 different forms of Lord Vinayagar. These 32 forms of Lord Vinayagar are unique to this temple, not seen in any other Vinayagar temple, even in India. Standing in the middle of the Main Hall are many colourful murals depicting the stories of Lord Vinayagar from the time of his birth till marriage. There is also a dome which features beautiful paintings of the eight different forms of Goddess Lakshmi, hence its name Ashtalakshmi Dome.  |
